Matters of Taste Cooking School Perth, Review- Spanish Tapas
My lovely girlfriends who I met through work, gave me a gift voucher for this cooking school last year for my birthday. Such a great idea! Thanks girls!
Last night my bf and I went for the Spanish Tapas experience.
And what an experience it was!
On the menu
All parts of the meals preparation and cooking were explained thoroughly, with recipe boards to follow on every table, help with taste-testing, and cooking instruction and overseeing provided to all. All questions were also answered in depth and more information was available if requested or required.
This cooking course was not advertised as gluten free friendly but having taken my digestive enzymes to help I was ready to experience and try to alter later. However, much to my delight the majority of the meal was gluten free friendly. I did not ask about whether the chorizo sausage and the Jamon were GF, but all other ingredients were fresh vegetables, meats (free-range), herbs and spices, so I knew they were alright.
And the food, oh the food. The marrying of fresh, spicy and all around delicious tastes were present in every dish, side and sauce. There aren’t words for all the flavour explosions and taste-bud tantalising aspects, but to say that they were excellent.
The churros for dessert were (better than San Churro), delicious and when I asked the Managing Director, Tracey, if she had made the choux pastry with gluten free flour, she searched for and printed off, Tobi Puttock’s recipe for Gluten free Choux pastry for me. Which I can’t wait to try!
Andrew and I both agreed that this was a very fun way to spend a night out together, a great alternative to a traditional date night. We loved all aspects of the dishes and had great difficulty deciding on our favourite recipes, I think the Patatas Bravas may have just gotten top spot. The green mojo (said moho) sauce was divinely fresh and spicy.
The food was waaay better than anything we’ve eaten in a restaurant in ages, and that gets our vote! It was also light, easy to prepare, pretty healthy and all around a great experience.
At $130/pp, for a 3 hour class, with an option to byo drinks, and getting to eat everything you make, we thought it was definitely worth it.
Thanks to Tracey and the team for a delicious food experience, we will be back very soon for another.
